How Often to Service Your Boiler

Boiler services are essential to ensure that your boiler is running efficiently and safely. No matter the age or model of your boiler, you should always book an annual service. Only a qualified engineer should carry out a boiler service, so always use a trusted company when booking your service.

An engineer will visit your home during a boiler service and complete several checks, but what does this process entail?

Reasons Why You Need An Annual Boiler Service

Keep Warranty Valid

Many boiler manufacturers offer a warranty on their products, but usually, you have to complete annual services to keep this warranty valid.

Ensure Safety

We all want to keep our families and property safe. Services give you peace of mind that your boiler and all its compartments are working safely.

Keep Bills Down

As boilers age, they become less efficient. Therefore, boiler services test all of the components to ensure they are all working as they should be, ensuring efficiency for longer.

Prevent Breakdowns

People may put off booking a service as they are an extra cost, but ultimately they can save you a lot of money. This is because services can detect potential faults with your boiler, and getting these fixed can prevent breakdowns which would cost you a lot more in the long run.

What Happens in A Boiler Service?

Visual Inspection

First, your engineer will visually inspect your boiler. They will check the flame and look for any corrosion or leaks. At this stage, they will also look for any external damage to the boiler and make sure the boiler is installed correctly. Although the visual inspection is essential, it’s not enough, and further checks must be done.

Efficiency Tests

During these tests, the engineer will remove the casing, and the boiler must be ignited and run. The gas rate is checked, making sure it is within the limits of the manufacturer’s standards. The tightness of the boiler is also measured, this is to ensure there is no escape of gas, which would affect efficiency.

Safety Tests

Next, your engineer will complete safety checks on your boiler. They will check the boiler’s stability, ensuring it is fitted correctly. The casing seal is checked, making sure there are no leaks. The engineer should then clean the boiler and all of its components before replacing the casing.

Ventilation Tests

A flue test ensures the boiler is working correctly and no combustion products are escaping. Next, the engineer will check that vents are present and working, and then a test to ensure the boiler is disposing of combustion products safely.

Pressure Tests

The boiler pressure is measured three times through the service; the boiler, the burner and the gas meter are all checked. In addition, the condition of the expansion vessels are checked, the engineer will top the pressure up if it is currently insufficient.

After all required checks are completed, you will receive a report detailing any problems found in the boiler service and wat boiler repairs may be needed. If you have any questions at this stage, don’t be afraid to ask! Your engineer will be more than happy to help.

The boiler service should last at least 30 minutes, but the length all depends on the model of the boiler. It is recommended that your boiler is serviced before winter starts. Having a service completed before winter ensures your boiler is up to standard to heat your home throughout the colder months. Nobody wants their boiler breaking down in December!

Here at SIMP Services, we offer a fixed price of £65 boiler service. If you need to book a boiler service, please e-mail us or call us on 07856875294.
